New Shipping Update!
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jul 24, 2018 at 07:37:16 PM

Hi all,

We just wanted to put out another quick update and let everyone know that we're still working hard to get your suits shipped. Suits have arrived at both the Hong Kong hub (for international backers and customers) and the US warehouse (for American backers and customers).

We've had a lot of minor things to work through with the international suits (things like getting final shipping weights and carrier pricing through our fulfillment contractors), but we ARE moving through them. These are the inevitable growing pains that result from building a new logistics chain, and once we get past them, we'll be able to ship all of the international suits.

For our American customers and backers, the suits are about to be shipped from the warehouse they arrived in after clearing customs to our hub in Seattle. The shipping process from there should be very straightforward - we're shipping these suits ourselves to avoid any slowdowns caused by third parties.

As always, thanks for coming along for the journey, and I hope our next announcement will be shipping!

Best,
Morgan and Team Hardlight

Shipping Update!

Hi everyone!

It's been a little while since the last update, so I wanted to leave a quick note for you: all of the suits are finished and have left the factory!

Half of the suits being loaded into a truck for shipment to the warehouse. (The other half took a different truck to a different warehouse)

About half of the suits are sitting in our fulfillment warehouse in Hong Kong, waiting for shipping clearances for our international customers (those should be done by the end of the week, and we should be able to start shipping to our international customers within a day or two after that).

The other half, for our North American customers, are currently on a cargo ship headed for our US distribution hub.

Our status dashboard. Not to scale, unfortunately. It'll take a few weeks for them to cross the pacific and get through customs here in the US.

As always, thanks for sticking with us as we navigate the process of making and shipping the suits! We'll continue to keep you updated.

Big Shipping Update!
almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 31, 2018 at 07:13:57 PM

Hi again everyone!

We're happy to share that the manufacturing run is drawing to a close and your Mk. III prototype Hardlight Suits should leave the factory this week!

Hardlight Suits under construction at the factory in Shenzhen.

Pallets of Hardlight Suits ready to be shipped out to backers and preorder customers.

As promised, we've got some more information for you about how all this will work:

For our backers and customers in the US, suits will be shipped in bulk to our warehouse in California, and we'll ship them out individually from there. We expect the bulk shipping to take a couple (2-3) weeks, but once they reach the US, delivery from the warehouse should be <1 week.

For those outside the US, we'll be shipping from Hong Kong, which means shipping TO the warehouse will only take a few days, but your individual deliveries may take a bit longer--around 2 weeks. We'll keep you updated if things change, and as we have more accurate dates to share.

Thanks,
Morgan and the Hardlight Team

Shipping Update
almost 6 years ago – Fri, May 11, 2018 at 06:48:46 PM

Hey everyone,

I know it's been a long wait, so thanks for your patience! Right now, your suit is being assembled in our factory in Shenzhen, China. All of the different pieces have been made and are currently being put together and processed through QC. We're expecting the suits to leave the factory in the next two weeks [I'll have a more detailed timeline in the next few days], but I want to make sure I don't set the wrong expectations here - depending on where you're located, suits may take a few weeks to arrive at the distribution hub for your region (we'll send out more details about this very soon). Still, things are moving quickly, and your suit will soon be on its way to you!

One final note, I want to apologize for our lack of consistent communication. I've backed a few Kickstarter projects, and I know it's frustrating when the people behind them aren't transparent. We always try to make sure you and every other backer are in the loop, but our communication has often failed to live up to our expectations and those of our backers. This has been especially problematic when we have run into delays - the most important times to be transparent! - because everyone on our small team has been focused on making sure things get moving smoothly again. We're working hard to be better, so expect more frequent status updates from here on out.

Thanks!

Manufacturing Announcement
about 6 years ago – Wed, Mar 14, 2018 at 05:44:11 PM

Hello Hardlight Backers,

We have some exciting news: today we started manufacturing the second run of the Hardlight Suits! With this run we will fulfill all remaining Kickstarter pledges. Manufacturing will take 6-8 weeks and then we will begin shipping. Once the suits leave our warehouse, you’ll each receive tracking notifications and information so you can follow your suit as it makes its way to your doorstep.

We are truly appreciative of your patience. As most young companies learn, the setup and sourcing for our manufacturing in China took longer than we ever anticipated, pushing our start date for this production run past the Chinese New Year. Along the way, we’ve also had to solve some engineering challenges while ensuring that our relatively small production runs still met with our high quality standards. We’ve emerged from the process wiser and with a few more gray hairs, but with a proven group of manufacturing partners and a production run that will be in your hands very soon.

When we began this journey, it was an exciting time for VR. Since then, the technology, community, and global footprint have grown in ways we’d never dreamed. There’s a mainstream VR movie coming out (with a haptic suit in it!), powerful new tech releasing this year, and a host of brand new games pushing the boundaries of the medium. VR seems to have finally gained the foothold in public consciousness that it’s always needed, and we wouldn’t be a part of it without your continued support.

We’re going to be sharing more big news with you over the next couple of months, including some new game partnerships we’ve been working on for some time.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to believe in and support us. We couldn’t be more excited to reward your patience.

Sincerely, Morgan and the Hardlight Team
